Hearing Assessment: What to Expect

An ear check can feel unfamiliar when you do not know what the equipment does. This interactive module introduces the tools an ear health worker may use and lets you explore them through play before a real appointment.

Meet the otoscope, a small light used to look inside the ear; the tympanometer, which checks how the eardrum moves; and the audiometer, which plays sounds to check what someone can hear. Each tool has a friendly introduction and an interactive activity where you can try using it virtually.

Explore what each tool does and what you might be asked to do during a checkup. Families, educators and health workers can use the activity to start a conversation about ear checks and answer children's questions. The virtual activities introduce the equipment; they do not test your hearing or replace a checkup with a health professional.
