Overview

SoundSmiles
tablet app

The SoundSmiles app is an interactive adventure where kids learn about their ears, their feelings and themselves, alongside Bilby. Each activity is built around exploration and play, letting kids discover and learn in their own time.

A toolkit of self-regulation activities

Breathing exercises, grounding techniques and calming strategies
children can return to whenever they need them.

Shaped by community and children

Developed through on-country consultation with Aboriginal communities and refined through usability testing with real children, so SoundSmiles reflects the people it’s built for, not assumptions about them.

Visual-first, not text-first

Icons, motion, audio and demonstration carry the meaning throughout SoundSmiles, so understanding never depends on reading ability, giving every child a fair way to engage.

Strengths-based and trauma-informed

Built to reduce stigma and shame around hearing health and emotions, so every activity offers children safety, choice and confidence, with no "right" or "wrong" way to feel.

Learning through play, not instruction

Children watch, try and practise each activity alongside Bilby in SoundSmiles, learning through doing and repetition rather than tapping through step-by-step written instructions.
